Bridge ready to answer England call

Wayne Bridge is ready to put his private concerns to one side and answer the call of England ahead of the World Cup in South Africa.

Bridge has been the subject of intense media specualtion after it was revealed that John Terry had an affair with his ex-girlfriend - a scandal that saw Terry relieved of the England captaincy - and reports suggested that Bridge would not want to play in the same side as his former Chelsea team-mate.

Soccernet understands that Bridge has been contacted by the England camp, although not personally by coach Fabio Capello, and has indicated that he would be ready to play in the friendly with Egypt at Wembley on March 3.

England face a potential defensive headache in their World Cup preparations as first choice left-back Ashley Cole has a broken ankle which will see him out of action for three months, but Bridge's acceptance to play alongside Terry could ease the burden.

An FA insider told Soccernet: "We don't anticipate a problem with Wayne Bridge. We feel that he is keen to be involved with England."

Capello has been looking at Everton's Leighton Baines and Aston Villa's Stephen Warnock in recent games and was at Eastlands on Saturday to watch Bridge impress in the FA Cup draw against Stoke.
